Debuting Tonight: American Embassy (Fox)
MediaWeek
by Marc Berman

By changing the title to American Embassy, Fox is probably looking to place more of the emphasis on an ensemble piece than a show just about a character named Emma Brody. And that's a smart thing to do given the breakout potential of other players like Emma's boss (Jonathan Polk) and neighbor (Michael Cerveris). If Fox can recognize that no new show in this time period is likely to even (immediately) match the ratings of a now declining Ally McBeal (news - Y! TV), the kind of patience it had with Ally in its early low-rated days could pay off. If you're a fan of The West Wing (news - web sites) and remember the nostalgic days of That Girl, combine the two and you have American Embassy. And that's not such a bad combination.

AMERICAN EMBASSY

-Time Period: Monday 9 p.m.
-Lead-in: Boston Public (news - Y! TV)

-The Scoop:
In this six-week replacement for the waning Ally McBeal, Arija Bareikis is featured as Emma Brody (which was the original title of this series), a former Toledo, Ohio resident who accepts a job as vice consul at the U.S. Embassy in London.

-Odds of Survival (based on 1-1 to 10-1): 5-1
