September 2 & 3: Michael performed in reading of Doll in Chicago

Michael portrayed Czech painter Oskar Kokoschka in the original workshop reading of the new musical "Doll" at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. The musical directed by Lonny Price depicts the real life story of Kokoschka and his love affair with the muse Alma Mahler in pre-war Vienna.

The Chicago Tribune reported, "The workshop was no thrown-together affair--the lead roles were sung by David Hyde Pierce (of "Frasier" fame), the notable Broadway siren Judith Blazer and Michael Cerveris, who has a huge set of pipes and originated the role of "Tommy" on Broadway, among other accomplishments...And while the staging was simple, this was still quite an elegant show--in the fashion of the popular concert-style stagings of musicals known as "Encores."
